He did just that, walking along the small path to the other camp. There he told the soldiers that the enemy had agreed to a safe retreat.
There was great joy here too. The soldiers on this side also hated the war, they were desperate for it to end. They threw Toney into the air and patted him on the back. Once even Lev Nikolayevich approached him and put his huge hand on Toney's shoulder in a friendly way, which made Toney's eyes very, very white...
The two armies soon loaded their weapons and soldiers onto trucks and headed back to their own country.
By morning, Toney was standing alone in the middle of the meadow.
"Well... Mum will be angry that I haven't found a useful job yet," Toney thought with a heavy heart, and went back to his broken-down motorcycle.
